Lecture 1. Introduction to Anatomy

Study hint: Read chapter 1 before you study this lecture. Memorize the Latin or Greek-based anatomical names of the parts of the body, the 4 abdominopelvic quadrants, 9 abdominopelvic regions, and the major planes of section.

Do not memorize the parts of body systems or the specific locations of organs at this time. We will spend the last half of the semester on this detail.

Lecture 1 is divided into three major topics for your convenience. Each discussion follows the outline for the topic given in your Lecture and Laboratory Syllabus for Biology 239: Human Anatomy with Cat Dissection. This lecture is not a substitute for your textbook. Rather, it helps you practice important concepts and defines key words that are not defined in your textbook.
