Counseling

The Counseling Department assists students in meeting their educational and career life goals through orientation, academic advisement, assessment, career planning, testing, workshops, and individual and group counseling.

Orientation
Counselors provide one-on-one and group orientations in regards to credit and non-credit services and programs. Students who want to attend college and/or want information about foreign transcript revalidation can make an appointment in the counseling office. All new students are encouraged to attend a counseling orientation to help clarify educational and career objectives and be exposed to the California Educational System.

Academic Counseling
Counselors can assist students in seeking educational options, develop an appropriate course of study, explore life-long goals, and provide referrals to tutoring, Disabled Student Program Services and outside agencies.

Career Planning
Counselors can assist students in exploring vocational and career options to develop the best course of action to reach these goals.

Personal Counseling
Counselors are here to assist you with problems, which may be impairing daily function and learning. The emphasis is on short-term counseling focused around problem areas or concerns. When appropriate, students may be referred to other professional services in the community.

Assessments
The Counseling Department offers the TABE test for students who are interested in entering the High School, GED, and Basic Skills programs. Opportunities are also available for career and study skills assessment as needed.
