Homeroom for College presentations to students. Almost every month during
the school year, students had the opportunity to visit a college/university
campus. UCLA, UCI, CSUF, SAC, Soka University, Occidental College were
among the campuses they have visited. This year, 576 students took advantage
of this opportunity.
GEAR UP II Santa Ana

and Willard intermediate schools. Close to 1,200 students received five
college information lessons during their school year. In the mean time,
administrators, faculty, and staff at the school sites were working
closely with the University of California, Irvine to provide professional
development for teachers and develop a comprehensive plan to implement
the rigorous Language Arts and mathematics programs at their school
sites.
Summer Residential Program (SRP)
Eighth grade GEAR UP students were offered the opportunity to participate
in the Summer Residential Program at UCI. The 8-day SRP is designed
to help students make the transition from middle school to high school
and help them stay on the path toward becoming competitively eligible
UC applicants. One hundred students will be selected for the program.
During the 8-day in residence at the University of California, Irvine,
students will be introduced to topics such as Algebra or Geometry and
Freshman English Writing. Students will also explore the world of higher
education through presentations on university readiness, campus resources,
majors, and career options.
Parent Residential Experience Program (PREP)
The Parent Residential Experience Program is a three-day, two-night
residential experience for parents of first-generation college bound
students. PREP is designed to introduce parents to the university and
strengthen their understanding of the pre-collegiate process. These
parents will serve as parent leaders to share their experience and knowledge
with other parents at their child's school.
