To achieve academic preparation and motivation for college, GEAR UP Santa Ana focuses on five core components:

	Language Arts Restructure the Language Arts and Language Development Department by adopting the nationally recognized Pathway model and other successful language arts teaching models into the curriculum.
	Mathematics Restructure the mathematics curriculum by providing all 7th and 8th grade students pre-algebra and algebra classes.
	Counseling and Guidance Integrate college awareness and guidance into the regular school day and provide summer academic enrichment programs hosted by the University of California at Irvine
	Mentoring Provide age appropriate mentoring to needed 7th and 8th graders.
	Parent Empower parents through meetings, workshops, parent promotores, and GEAR UP Parent Academy.
