The goal of the GEAR UP Mentoring Program is to improve student's aspirations
and motivate them toward successful mobility into society. The vision
students hold of their future gives meaning to school work, resulting
in improved academic achivements, self-esteem, self-concept, study skills,
and attitude toward school.
A mentor specialist is assigned to recruit and train college students
to become mentors, then work with middle school counselors to match
them with students who need mentoring.
