Program Launch
At the beginning of the school year, a kick-off
day is launched for 7th and 8th grade students to mark the beginning
of the school year and signal the significance of the change anticipated
as a result of implementing the GEAR UP program at the GEAR UP
schools.
Homeroom for College
The Homeroom for College program is built into
the school day for every GEAR UP student in the 7th and 8th grade
on a once a month basis..
University Campus Tour
Students and parents are exposed to college campuses
so they can experience actual campus life and come to the realization
that some day they too can be there.
College Fair
A College Fair is held each year at McFadden
Intermediate School for all middle school students and their parents.
They have the opportunity to meet with college and university
representatives and attend workshops to learn more about college.
Career Day
Career day is held in each GEAR UP middle school.
Students have the opportunity to explore different careers and
listen to professionals from all walks of life as they come into
their classrooms to share information with them.
Higher Education Center
A Higher Education Center is now in place at
most GEAR UP schools. The Higher Education Center is the place
to disseminate college and university information and assist students
in the preparation for college admission.
