SUMMER STOCK

returned to Santa Ana College last year after a several year furlow, and...  

 was a tremendous success as both high school and college students 
joined our company along with director John DeMita, 
musical director Jimmy Vann, and choreographer Heather Gillette
in the production of Rydell High's 1959 gum chewing, hot-rod loving boys and their wisecracking girls wearing bobby sox and pedal pushers in...

What is Summer Stock?
  It is an 8 week intensive training course for high school and college students providing both instruction and practical experiences in all specialty areas within the discipline of Theatre Arts, culminating in a fully produced theatrical production.

Bye Bye Birdie

A Musical Comedy telling the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army.  BYE BYE BIRDIE is a satire done with the fondest affection.  It gives an insight into the everyday life that is very much part of us all, topping with imagination and frivolity.

PERFORMANCE DATES:
August 9 - 19th

All high school, college, and community members are welcomed and encouraged to audition and/or interview for positions in our company!  Whether you are an actor, singer, dancer, or interested in costuming. stage lighting, scene painting, running crew, makeup, or any other backstage job, we have a place for you in Summer Stock 2001.

Performers
 Auditions

    All performers MUST attend one of the auditions. 
    Audition dates are June 21 & 22 at 7:00 PM in Phillips Hall.
    Call-back auditions will be held on June 23, as requested by the director.

    Please prepare the following:

    1.    16 measures of an up-tempo song selection.  Bring sheet music in the appropriate key.  An accompanist will be provided.  No taped accompaniment, please!  Songs from BYE BYE BIRDIE 
    are acceptable.

    2.   Dress to dance.  You will be taught a short dance combination.

    All those cast are called Monday through Friday evenings from 6:00-10:00 PM.

Technicians
 Interviews

  All technicians must attend one of the interviews.
        Interview dates are June 21 & 22 at 1:00 PM in Phillips Hall. 
        Experience is helpful but not required.

    On an 8 -1/2" by 11" sheet of paper type the following information and bring it with you to your interview. 
 1. Name
     Address
     Home telephone number
     Pager or cell phone number
2. Briefly list and/or describe any backstage experience you  have obtained and where.

3. Briefly describe where your technical interests lie (i.e. lighting control, scenery construction, costume/fashion design, makeup, sound, etc.)

All those selected to be technicians are called Monday through Friday from 1:00-5:00 PM.
 
All company members must enroll in 
Theatre  Arts 198 (Summer Stock)
for 2 units college credit.

PERFORMANCE DATES:
August 9 (Preview),10,11,16,17, & 18, at 8:00 PM
August 11 & 18, at 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM
August 12 & 19, at 2:30 PM
