Brian Kehlenbach (b. 1958) has received wide
musical experience as a jazz pianist, classical recitalist
and composer on both the East and West coasts. He holds
a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University
of Southern California, where he was named outstanding
graduate in music theory and composition in 1991. He
was the recipient of the Peter David Faith Memorial
Award in Composition, the Jimmy McHugh Composition Prize
and the Hans Salter Music Award. Also, his piece Times
of Reflection was a winning composition in the Freeman
Competition of 1989. He earned his M.M. and B.S degrees
at the University of Connecticut graduating summa cum
laude. Recent performances of Kehlenbach's works include concerts
presented by the Los Angeles SCREAM festival, the CalArts
Contemporary Music Festival, the U.S.C. Contemporary
Music Ensemble, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los
Angeles John Cage Festival and KPFK radio. His commissions
include works for the Truda Kashmann Dance Ensemble,
the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and other various artists. Dr. Kehlenbach is also involved in commercial music
endeavors including writing music for television and
radio. He currently teaches music theory, piano, computer-assisted
composition, and commercial music studies at Santa Ana
College in Santa Ana, California. In 1999 he was named
Distinguished Faculty Lecturer.
