Journalism Highlights 2004-05

Both the el Don and West 17th won Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Silver Crown Awards - the only California college or university to do so, and only one of two colleges or universities in America to receive such a distinction.
The el Don won its fourth consecutive College Media Advisers Crystal Apple Award as the Best 2-year Tabloid Newspaper in America.
California Newspaper Publishers Association named el Don its 2-year College Newspaper of The Year for the third consecutive year.
The el Don won First Place Best of Show at the Associated Collegiate Press National Newspaper Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
el Don won First Place in the 2004 Los Angeles Times College Newspaper of the Year contest.
The University Of Missouri School Of Journalism’s Student Society of News Design named Viento Magazine of the Year.
SAC journalism student Nate Little, still in high school, won First Place in Feature Page Design by the University of Missouri School of Journalism’s SSND international design competition, First Place from the Michigan State Edmund Arnold School of Journalism SSND and First Place in The Journalism Association of Community Colleges Student Media competition. This marks the first time in SAC journalism’s history any student has won first place in all three of these major competitions.
30 SAC journalism students won California State Journalism Awards.
28 SAC Journalism students won individual Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Gold Crown Awards.

40 SAC journalism students won more than 150 team and individual honors.
