Head Coach, 9th year
Vince Silva returns for his ninth year as head wrestling coach and tenth overall at Santa Ana College . In 2005, Silva guided the Dons to their first state championship in over 30 years.
Last season, Silva led the Dons to a second place finish in the State Championships winning the South Coast Conference title along the way. The Dons also won the SoCal Regional Championships while never finishing lower than second place all season.
Before assuming the duties of head coach, Silva was an assistant under Frank Gonzales in 1998 and 1999. In his first season as head coach, Santa Ana finished 17th at the state meet with two wrestlers earning top three finishes as individuals.
Silva graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1982 where he finishing fourth in the state as a senior. He later attended Oklahoma State University , where he received his bachelor's degree, and earned All-America honors twice while leading the Cowboys to a Big-8 championship in 1988.
Silva started his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Nebraska in 1989. While at Nebraska he was named the "Big-8 Assistant Coach of the Year." He also served as an assistant at the University of Minnesota in 1990. |
