Vince Silva returns for his fifth
year as head wrestling coach and seventh overall
at Santa Ana College. Silva was an assistant under Frank
Gonzales in 1998 and 1999 and assumed the head coaching duties
prior to the start of the 2000 season.
In his first season as head coach, Santa Ana
finished 17th at the state meet with two wrestlers earning top three finishes as individuals.
Silva graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1982 where he finishing fourth
in the state as a senior. He later attended Oklahoma State University, where he received his bachelor's degree, and earned
All-America honors twice while leading the Cowboys to a Big-8 championship
in 1988.
Silva started his coaching career as an assistant at the University of
Nebraska in 1989. While at Nebraska he was named the Big-8 Assistant Coach of the Year. He
also served as an assistant at the University of Minnesota in 1990.
