Santa Ana Defeats E. Los Angeles with Late Pin

SANTA ANA, CA – The Santa Ana College (SAC) wrestling team defeated East Los Angeles College (ELAC) 18-17. ELAC held a 17-12 lead heading into the heavyweight match when Tyler Porras (Westmont HS) pinned his opponent to give the Dons the victory.

Anthony Frank (Laguna Hills HS) defeated Samuel Saunders 2-0 to score the Dons three points in the 125-pound weight class followed by a 12-5 win by Cesar Renteria (Edison HS) over Richard Patini in the 133-pound weight class to extend the Dons' lead to 6-0.

The Dons forfeited the 141-pound weight class, tying the match at 6-6. Jose Serrato Santa Ana HS), who entered the match ranked number one in the state, gave the Dons a 9-6 lead by defeating Jeff Peterson 7-3 in the 149-pound weight class.

ELAC tied the match at 9-9 with an 8-3 victory in the 157-pound weight class by Adrian Gonzales over Sean Barbour (Dana Hills HS). Dylan Sweet (Los Osos HS) put the Dons back on top 12-9 with a 5-2 win over Ellis Trotter in the 165-pound weight class.

Jay Bogan pulled ELAC within 12-11 with a 10-6 win over Justin Gomez (Tustin HS) in the 184-pound weight class. ELAC was deducted one team point during the match. ELAC retook the lead at 14-12 with an 8-2 win by James Clay over Steve Sohanaki (Aliso Niguel) in the 184-pound weight class.

Michael Salcido extended ELAC's lead to 17-12 with a 9-3 victory over Jaime Suarez (Santa Ana HS) in the 197-pound weight class. Porras pinned Julian Capucetti in the last period of the heavyweight match to give the Dons an 18-17 win.
