SAC's O'Hara Honored By COA/U.S. Bank
SANTA ANA, CA - On Thursday (January 12), Santa Ana College freshman wrestler Mike O'Hara was named The California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics/U.S. Bank Student Athlete of the Month for December. The COA, in partnership with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA), made the announcement public in a press release issued earlier today.
O'Hara, a freshman from Redlands East Valley High School, helped the Dons win their first team state wrestling title in 31 years (1974) when he capped an undefeated season by winning the 149-pound weight class at the 2005 California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Wrestling Championships presented by U.S. Bank on December 10 in Fresno, CA. O'Hara defeated Bakersfield College's Alex Herrera, 5-3, in quadruple overtime to finish the season with an unblemished record of 33-0. O'Hara's state title earned him all-American recognition and allowed him to join Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Famer Frank Gonzales as the only two Dons to finish a season undefeated.
U.S. Bank is the “Official Services Provider” of the COA and California community college athletics. U.S. Bank is also the official presenting sponsor of all California community college championship events, including the 2005-06 COA Championship Festival in Fresno , CA .
