Santa Ana Claims First-Ever CCC State Dual Title
SANTA ANA, CA - Second-ranked Santa Ana College won eight of 10 matches to claim its first-ever California Community College State Wrestling Dual Championship with a 34-6 win over Fresno City College in a match held at California State University Fullerton, Friday.
The Dons were led by Jose Hernandez and Mike O'Hara who are ranked first in the state at 125 and 149 respectively. Jose Hernandez controlled his match with Sabi Singh winning, 7-2, while O'Hara improved to 26-0 with a pin of Fresno City 's Steve George at the 3:34 mark. Santa Ana also received big wins from Brian Judd, ranked second in the state at 184, who wrestled at 197 and recorded a surprising pin of William Griffin, the state's top-ranked grappler at that weight.
Rudy Justo (133) used two takedowns, two escapes and riding time to decision Mike Waterston at 133 while Steve Schantin recorded a major decision over Mike Righi, 12-3, with five takedowns, an escape and riding time.
O'Hara was leading 10-1 at 149 before pinning George early in the second period while Sabas Cruz overcame a 4-2, 6-4 first-period deficit by scoring 10 of the matches final 13 points to decision Siani Pezzatt, 14-9. Santa Ana 's Tom Eaton, at 174, sealed the state championship when he shutout Paul Lujano, 4-0.
