Cerritos Downs Santa Ana; Ends Dons' SCC Title Hopes
SANTA ANA, CA - Last year, the Cerritos College and Santa Ana College wrestling teams tied in their South Coast Conference match and had to settle for sharing the title. This year, the Falcons made sure there would be no tie, as they handed the Dons a 34-12 defeat.
Entering the match, Santa Ana was rated second in the state, while Cerritos was rated fifth. Two weeks ago the Dons and Falcons tied, 25-25 in their earlier match in the finals of the South California Duals. Santa Ana (7-3-1,
2-2) was ruled the winner due to criteria and advanced to the state finals of the team duals against Fresno City College on Friday, November 18.
The Dons picked up wins from third-ranked Rudy Justo at 133 who won by technical fall, 16-2, over John McCaleb and top-ranked Mike O'Hara who remained unbeaten with a 24-10 win over freshman David Razo at 149. O'Hara is now 23-0 on the year.
Top-ranked Jose Hernandez scored Santa Ana's final points of the match in a 7-3 decision over fourth-rated Jimmy Valdivia at 125.
The Dons were wrestling without the services of Brian Judd who was ranked second at 184 coming into the match while Steve Schantin, ranked second at 141, was forced to withdrawal from his match with fifth-rated Tony Aparicio due to a stomach ailment, Wednesday.
