SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's volleyball team lost to visiting Southwestern College in four games in a non-conference volleyball match.
The two teams traded the lead early up to a 10-10 tie before the Dons outscored Southwestern 10-3 to take a 20-13 lead. Southwestern battled back to tie the game at 21-21 and take the lead at 22-21. Southwestern held a 24-23 lead but the Dons came back to score three straight points to win the game, their first of the year.
Southwestern jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the second game and didn't look back. The Jaguars went on to win the game 25-11 and even the match at one game apiece.
The teams traded the lead several times early in the third game up to a 14-14 tie. Southwestern scored three straight points to take the lead and never gave it back as the Jaguars pulled away for a 25-20 win.
In the fourth and final game, Southwestern jumped out to 14-1 lead early in the game. The Dons made two runs late but were unable to overcome the large deficit and lost the game 25-17 and the game 4-1.
Andrea Gallardo (Centennial HS) led the Dons with 11 digs and two service aces while Melina Barrera (Saddleback HS), Maritza Chavez (Saddleback HS), Yesica Garcia (Santa Ana HS) and Tania Hernandez (El Dorado HS) had three kills each.
