Abbey
Head Coach, 5th year
Troy Abbey begins his fifth year as the head coach of the women's volleyball team at Santa Ana College. Abbey, who was named the Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year in 2003, was hired as a full-time exercise science instructor and head women's volleyball in July 2001.
Prior to his arrival, the California State University, Long Beach-product had coached volleyball for 15 years at
various levels of competition.
Abbey started his coaching career as the head coach of the California Juniors
Volleyball Club from 1986-96. He also coached at Saddleback College from
1992leading the Gauchos to the regional playoffs in 1993 and 1994.
Abbey most recently coached at La Habra High School where he posted a 40-0
Freeway League record over four seasons as the Highlanders captured the
CIF Division IIA championship and the Southern California state regional
championship in 2000.
Abbey was named CIF Division IIA Coach-of-the-Year in 1998 and 2000 while
at La Habra as well as Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register Coach-of-the-Year
in 2000. He was also named ESPN girls volleyball Coach-of-the-Week
during the 2000 season.
