SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's volleyball team lost to visiting Golden West College in three straight games in the first Orange Empire Conference match of the season. The Dons fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play with the loss.
After leading 6-3, Golden West (8-2, 1-0) went on an early 6-0 run to take a 12-3 lead in game one. The Rustlers pulled away from there taking the first game by a score of 25-11.
The two teams battled early in the second game up to a 9-9 tie. The Rustlers continued to hold one and two-point leads through the game before taking a 20-15 lead. The Dons battled back to cut the Rustlers lead to 21-19 before Golden West went on a 4-1 run to win the game 25-20.
Golden West jumped out to an 8-3 early in the third game before pulling out to a 21-11 lead. The Dons rallied to cut the lead to 24-18 before the Rustlers won the game, and the match by a final score of 25-18.
Andrea Gallardo led the Dons with 18 digs followed by Angelica Cornejo with 11 digs. Teuila Palm led the Dons with seven kills and Lupe Salinas had two solo blocks.
