Santa Ana Gets First Conference Win in 22 Games

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's volleyball team defeated Riverside College in an Orange Empire Conference match for the Dons first conference win in 22 matches. The win improves the Dons to 4-8 on the season and 1-6 in conference. Riverside drops to 6-7 and 2-5 in conference.

The Dons snapped their eleven-game losing streak by claiming the first game over Riverside by a score of 30-24. The teams traded the lead early before SAC jumped out to a 10-6 lead. Riverside battled back to take a 13-11 lead before the Dons scored seven straight points to retake the lead at 18-13. The Dons controlled the remainder of the game on their way to the 30-24 victory.

Riverside scored the first three points of the second game and held the lead up to 19-18. SAC tied the game at 19-19 and grabbed its first lead at 24-23. The game was tied 26-26 before the Dons scored four straight to win 30-26.

Riverside again opened the game by scoring three straight points in the third game and went on to win the game 30-23. The game remained close as the teams were tied at 18-18. Riverside then went on a 12-5 run to win the game and force a fourth.

Riverside forced a fifth and deciding game by taking the fourth game 30-21. The Dons were able to stay close but Riverside took an early lead and held it for the remainder of the game.

In the fifth and final game, SAC scored the first four points of the game and held the lead up to a 7-7 tie. After the teams traded the lead two times SAC took the lead at 10-9 and held on to win the game, and the match, 15-13.
