SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's volleyball team lost in five games to visiting Saddleback College in an Orange Empire Conference match. SAC fought back to force a fifth game after losing the first two games of the match.
The Dons were forced to make a late charge in the first game as they fell behind 23-16. After cutting the lead to 29-28, SAC surrendered the final point and lost the game 30-28. The Gauchos jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second game and held a 22-15 lead at one point. The Dons made another late charge to pull within 29-26 after falling behind 29-24. However, it was too little too late as they dropped the second game 30-26.
The Dons held the early lead in the third game before Saddleback fought back to tie the game at 13-13. The teams traded the lead back and forth all the way to a 28-28 tie before the Dons scored two straight to win the third game 30-28.
Neither team was able to take control in the second game as they traded the lead back and forth throughout the game. The largest lead belonged to Saddleback at 26-21 before SAC outscored the Gauchos 9-1 including eight straight to take the fourth game 30-27 and force a fifth game.
The Gauchos took an early 5-1 lead in the final game before SAC battled back and tied the game at 8-8. However, Saddleback pulled away and stopped the Dons comeback attempt and won the final game 15-11.
