SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's volleyball team won its first match of the season in three straight games defeating Rio Hondo College (RHC) 30-19, 30-21 and 30-27.
The Dons took the first game 30-19 despite falling behind early. RHC held an 11-6 lead before SAC out scored the Roadrunners 7-2 to tie the game at 13-13. The Dons scored the next two points and kept the lead for the remainder of the game, winning by 11 points.
The second game was all SAC as the Dons scored the first three points of the game. RHC scored to make the game 3-1 but that would be the closest the Roadrunners would get for the remainder of the game. The Dons held a lead as large as 16 points at 24-8. After SAC held a 26-11 lead RHC stormed back scoring six straight points to cut the lead to 26-17. The comeback was not enough as the Dons went on to win the game 30-21.
The Dons broke a 12-12 tie in the third game by out scoring RHC 10-2 to take a 22-14 lead. RHC made a late charge scoring six straight points to cut the Dons' lead from 29-21 to 29-27 before SAC scored the final point and won the match 3-0.
