Cruikshank Repeats As SoCal Heptathlon Champ
SAN DIEGO, CA - For the second year in a row Santa Ana College 's Elle Cruikshank captured both the Orange Empire Conference and Southern California Heptathlon Championship that concluded on Wednesday at the ARCO/U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego. Cruikshank broke her own school record by scoring 4,173 points in the two-day event breaking her previous mark of 4,144 that was set last Spring when she finished second at the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics state track & field championships.
The sophomore from Foothill High School edged out Cerritos College's Jacqueline Taylor and Tatyanna Ricks who finished second and third, respectively. Cruikshank, who was in third place heading into the final event, won the 800 with a person-best of 2:26.03 and passed Taylor and Ricks in the process..
Cruikshank won the javelin (35.89m), shot put (10.59m) and 800 (2:26.03); finished second in the 200 (27.61); placed third in the long jump (5.07m); finished fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.99); and placed 10th in the high jump (1.43m) to win her second consecutive title.
Teammate Veronica Gonzales finished second in the OEC portion of the meet with 3130 points and 13th overall.
