Santa Ana Opens With Third Place Finish

MISSION VIEJO, CA - Santa Ana College opened its 2005 track & field season with an impressive third-place finish at the Orange Empire Conference Relays held at Saddleback College on Friday. The Dons scored 69 points and trailed only meet-champion Orange Coast College who scored 107.5 points and second-place Fullerton College who finished with 83 points.

Elle Cruikshank captured a pair of individual titles by winning the 100-meter hurdles in 16.1 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.1. The sophomore also finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4 '10".

Like Cruikshank, Cassandra Power was a three-event place finisher. Power won the javelin (100' 1"), finished third in the shot put (34' 3/4") and seventh in the discus (91' 0").

Andrea Cantrell and Allison Taylor placed second and third, respectively, in the long jump for the Dons. Cantrell finished second with a leap of 15' 11" and edged Taylor who finished third at 15' 10".

Veronica Gonzalez added a fifth-place finish in the high jump clearing 4' 6".

Santa Ana's 4x400 relay team rounded out the team's scoring by winning the event in 4:43.6.
