John Wright Named State Co-Coach of the Year; Dons Finish Fifth in State Championships at Saddleback

MISSION VIEJO , CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's swimming team placed fifth at the State Women's Swimming Championships held at the Saddleback College Pool with a team score of 291 points. The Dons had the best team score out of the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) teams and the second highest score for all Southern California teams.

At the end of the event, SAC's head coach John Wright was named the State Co-Coach of the Year. He has led the Dons to one of their best seasons in several years and wins the award a week after being named the OEC Coach of the Year.

SAC's highest finish in the championships came from the 800 yard freestyle relay team of Chelsea Hybskmann, Gina Pence, Jenna Natalizio and Kaylen Hewko who took second place. The top individual finishes came from Gina Pence who finished third in the 1650 yard freestyle and Hewko who finished third in the 100 yard backstroke.

Other top finishes came from the 400 yard medley relay team of Karli Nihei, Bianca Kibby, Natalizio and Hewko that finished fourth and Hewko who finished fourth in the 200 yard freestyle.
