John Wright Named Coach of the Year; Kaylen Hewko Wins the OEC Championship in the 100 Yard Butterfly
MISSION VIEJO , CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's swimming team placed fourth at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Women's Swimming Championships held at the Saddleback College Pool with a team score of 498.5.
Sophomore Kaylen Hewko (Rosary HS) led the Dons as she took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.84. Head Coach John Wright was also named OEC Coach of the Year as he led the Dons to a 5-1 regular season conference record.
Freshman Gina Pence (Esperanza HS) finished in second place in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:03.69 and sophomore Bianca Kibby (Valencia HS) took second in the 100 freestyle as she finished with a time of 55.05.
Other results for SAC included sophomore Jenna Natalizio (Irvine HS) with a third place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:03.28) and freshman Karli Nihei (Fountain Valley HS) with a fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.20). The Dons 400 free relay team took sixth place with a time of 3:33.77.
Orange Coast College finished in first place with 680.5 points, followed by Riverside Community College at 653.0 and Saddleback College at 582.0. Cypress College finished in fifth place at 265.5, followed by Fullerton College at 217.0 and Golden West College at 167.5.
Chelsea Hybskmann, Stephanie Sasaki, Kibby, Hewko, Natalizio, Pence and Nihei have all qualified to compete in the
2008 California Community College Athletic Association State Swimming and Diving Championships taking place May 1st-3rd,2008
