SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's soccer team opened the second round of Orange Empire Conference play the same way they opened conference play, with a 2-1 victory over Golden West College.
Courtney Crain opened the scoring for the Dons (10-3-0, 6-3-0) in the ninth minute when she gathered the rebound off an Amanda Chavez shot and found the back of the net to put the Dons up 1-0.
Reyna Fonseca scored the second goal for the Dons in the 25th minute when she stole the ball from the Rustlers (0-13-0, 0-9-0) defense and beat the keeper one-on-one.
Brittany Woodward scored the lone goal for the Rustlers in the 77th minute to cut the Dons lead to 2-1. However, it was too late as Cortnee Kleidon and the Dons defense held GWC for the remainder of the game to secure their 10th win of the season.
Kleidon finished the game with four saves while allowing one goal. Her counterpart, Sandy Phan, made 10 saves for the Rustlers while allowing two goals.
