SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's soccer team defeated Chaffey College 3-2 on a last minute goal despite leading 2-0 at half time. The win improves the Dons to 4-0-0 on the season while Chaffey continues to look for its first win as the Panthers fall to 0-6-0.
Salina Ortiz scored the first goal for the Dons when her corner kick rolled back out to her just outside of the box. She fired a shot right under the crossbar to give SAC the 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
Iliana Cardenas extended the Dons lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute when Alejandra Mendoza set her up at the top of the box for the goal.
Chaffey stormed back in the second half scoring in the 59th minute to cut the Dons lead to 2-1. Brandy Patterson scored the equalizer for the Panthers in the 76th minute.
With just under a minute to play in regulation, Angeles Martinez connected with Cardenas who was running down the left sideline. Cardenas beat the defender and fired a shot at the short side of the goal for the game-winning goal.
Cortnee Kleidon's streak of three-and-a-half games without allowing a goal was snapped but the sophomore keeper turned away four shots to help the Dons to the victory.
NEXT: The Dons head to Golden West College to kick off Orange Empire Conference play next Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Last season, the two teams split the season series with the home team winning each game.
