Santa Ana Gives Up Lead on Way to Tie with Palomar

SANTA ANA , CA – Santa Ana College 's (SAC) women's soccer team dueled to a 1-1 tie against Palomar Thursday, August 31 at Santa Ana College . Despite both goals coming in the second half, SAC came on with a strong effort in the first half with Palomar taking charge late in the game.

Esther Aceves (Century HS) took a pass from Nadine Allouche (Laguna Hills HS) across the top of the box and sent her shot past Palomar's goalie to give the Dons a 1-0 lead in the 63 rd minute.

Palomar, who got off to a slow start, turned up the pressure on the Dons after the goal and controlled the ball for most of the rest of the game. The Comets pressured SAC late in the game and a foul in the box gave Palomar a penalty kick. Felicia Velte took the penalty kick for the Comets and was successful, sneaking the ball past Alexis Villanueva (Katella HS).

The tie keeps the Dons winless for the season; however they were able to get 11 shots off on the Comets while Palomar only managed six. Both teams played aggressively with a combined four yellow cards called during the game.
