Santa Ana Falls To OEC-Leading Cypress, 84-45
CYPRESS, CA - After winning its first Orange Empire Conference game with a 61-53 over Saddleback College on Wednesday, Santa Ana College faced the daunting task of taking on conference-leading Cypress College.
The Chargers jumped out to a 16-3 lead and never looked back as they downed the visitinng Dons, 84-45, in league play. Santa Ana's Ahkiah Hunter scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss. Melissa Alves added eight points followed by Corrine Gonzalez who finished with six.
Cypress had four players score in double figures led by Rosalyn Omoruyi who had a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds. Ana Fakatou also recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds followed by Paula Reed and Niann Hill with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Chargers held a 50-18 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 50 in the second half before the Dons used a 20-9 run to close out the game.
