Santa Ana's Comeback Falls Short
SANTA ANA, CA - Vanessa Dominguez scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds as visiting Irvine Valley College (9-8, 3-1) downed Santa Ana College (4-9, 0-4), 55-47, in Orange Empire Conference women's basketball action, Friday.

The Dons cut the Lasers' 11-point halftime lead to one (32-31) on Luz Gonzalez's jumper with 14:13 remaining but failed to get any closer.
Kelly Chavez led Santa Ana with 13 points followed by Ahkiah Hunter who was also in double figures with 10. Chavez made 4-of-10 field goals including 3-of-8 from three-point range and was 2-of-2 at the free throw line. She also had a team-high eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Dons. Viri Tovar and Corrine Gonzales each finished with six points apiece.
Tasha Russell was also in double figures for the Lasers with 11 followed Laura Murphy added nine points and handed out a team-high four assists. Monique Newsome grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Lasers in the win.
Both teams fell victim to the whistle as 52 fouls were called in the game.
Next: Santa Ana will travel to Mission Viejo on Wednesday, January 17 to face Saddleback College in Orange Empire Conference women's basketball action at 7:30 p.m.
