Dons Suffer Loss In Orange Empire Opener
RIVERSIDE, CA - Riverside College ran its win streak to 11 games with a 70-31 victory over Santa Ana in both teams Orange Empire Conference opener at Wheelock Gym.

Riverside settled the outcome early, outscoring Santa Ana 32-6 in the first half. The Tigers, ranked second in the state, had six players score in the first half, led by freshman Shavonne Smith with nine and sophomore Leslie Pickron with eight.
Santa Ana finished with the first half with 21 turnovers and was just 3 of 17 from the field. While the Dons picked it up in the second half it wasn't nearly enough as the Tigers outscored Santa Ana, 38-25 in the final period.
Viri Tovar was the only Santa Ana player to score in double figures with 10. The sophomore guard made 4 of 10 field goals including 2 of 4 three pointers. Luz Gonzalez added six points in the loss.
Riverside had five players score in double figures, led by Smith who finished with 15. Tyresha Calhoun added 11.
Next: Santa Ana will try and even its OEC record when it travels to Costa Mesa to face Orange Coast College in a conference women's basketball game on Friday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m.
