Santa Ana Snaps 47-Game Winless Streak;
Routs Visiting Barstow, 88-46, In Home-Opener
SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College snapped its 47-game winless streak and gave first-year head coach Flo Luppani her first head coaching win with an 88-46 rout of Barstow College in non-conference women's basketball action, Wednesday. It was the Lady Dons first on-court win since they beat Los Angeles Harbor College, 64-62, on November 22, 2002 .

Santa Ana, now 1-5 overall, had five players score in double figures led by Ahkiah Hunter who had a game-high 16 for the Lady Dons. Kelly Chavez finished with 15 followed by Luz Gonzalez with 14, Constance Brinson, 11 and Antionette Nichols, 10. Hunter was 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect
6-for-6 from the line while Chavez was 5-of-11 from the field including 4-of-7 from three-point range.
The Lady Dons jumped out to a15-0 lead and held the visiting Lady Vikings scoreless for the first 7:52 and never looked back. Santa Ana shot 42.9 percent from the field (36-of-84) and 43.8 percent from three-point range
(7-of-16). The Lady Dons dominated the boards by outrebounding the Lady Vikings, 48-36.
Barstow was led by Angie Mendoza and Shawnacey Mccollum who scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Lady Vikings made 38.8 percent of their field goals (19-of-49) and were just 1-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc. Barstow committed 46 turnovers in the loss that dropped its overall record to 1-6.
Next: Santa Ana will next be in action at Mt. San Jacinto College on Saturday, December 18. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
