Lady Dons Drop Two In Glendale Tournament


GLENDALE, CA - Santa Ana College fell to 0-3 on the year with a pair of losses in the Glendale Tournament this weekend. On Friday (November 19), Cerritos College shot 53 percent from the field as the Falcons downed the Lady Dons, 58-42, in the first round of the tournament.

Ahkiah Hunter (Ocean View HS) scored a season-high 16 on 8 of 13 shooting in the loss. The freshman also finished with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kelly Chavez (Santiago HS) added seven points while handing out a team-high four assists. The sophomore also tallied four steals. Corrine Gonzales (Hilltop HS) and Viri Tovar (Santa Ana HS) finished with six and five points, respectively, while Sol Pacheco (Bolsa Grande HS) had a game-high five rebounds.

On Saturday, the Lady Dons offense continued to improve in their 59-52 loss to San Diego Mesa College in a consolation game. After shooting just 27 percent in its season-opener at Los Angeles Pierce College last Wednesday, Santa Ana shot a season-high 41.8 percent from the field against the Olympians.

Luz Gonzalez (Century HS) and Chavez led the Lady Dons with 18 an 12 points, respectively. Gonzalez made 8 of her 16 shots from the field and made both of her free throw attempts while Chavez connected on 2 of 7 field goals, both three-pointers, and was 6-for-6 fro the free throw line.

Hunter and Pacheco each added six points apiece for Santa Ana. Hunter also had a team-high six assists while Pacheco had a team-high six rebounds.

Next: Santa will travel to West Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 1 for another non-conference women's basketball contest set to start at 7:30 p.m.
