Dons Win a Thriller in Overtime Defeat Fullerton 80-79

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's basketball team defeated visiting Fullerton College (FCC) 80-79 in overtime of an Orange Empire Conference game. The victory improves the Dons to 14-7 overall and 3-2 in conference while the Hornets fall to 13-11 overall and 3-2 in conference.

FCC held a 10-point lead at half time before SAC opened the second half on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 39-39 four minutes into the second half. Both teams traded the lead for the remainder of the game leading to a 70-70 tie at the end of regulation.

The Hornets opened overtime on a 7-1 run to take a 77-71 lead. The Dons answered with two-straight lay-ups by Jamie Glover (Villa Park HS) to cut the lead to 77-75.

After a FCC jump shot gave the Hornets a 79-75 lead, Heather Couzens (Pacifica HS) hit a three-point shot to pull the Dons within one with five seconds remaining.

Fullerton missed a free-throw one second later, giving SAC one last shot. Before the Dons could get a shot off, Cassie Rico (Century HS) was fouled with half a second left. She converted both free-throws to give SAC the 80-79 win.

Couzens led the Dons despite being in foul trouble for most of the second half and overtime with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Glover scored 17 points follwed by Caitlyn Holley (Aliso Niguel HS) who scored 12 points.
