SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's basketball team lost to visiting Irvine Valley College (IVC) 76-70 in an Orange Empire Conference basketball game. The loss drops the Dons to 13-7 on the season and 2-2 in conference.
The Lasers jumped out to an early 16-9 lead and continued to pull away from the Dons in the first half. IVC used seven three-point baskets to a 41-27 half time lead.
SAC continued to trail by 10 or more points for the first ten minutes of the second half before hitting several three-point baskets to cut into the Lasers 'lead. Jamie Glover (Villa Park HS) hit a three-point shot with five and a half minutes remaining to pull the Dons within 64-63.
Heather Couzens (Pacifica HS) made a lay-up 30 seconds later to give SAC its first lead since the opening basket at 65-64. However, the Dons were unable to hold on to the lead and IVC pulled away for the 76-70 victory. The two teams combined for a total of 23 made three-point baskets in the game.
Couzens led the Dons with 22 points and 14 rebounds and Caitlyn Holley (Aliso Niguel HS) was the only other SAC player in double digits with 15 points.
