Ho, Argent Advance To State Championships

SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College's Anh Ho and Barbara Argent finished third in doubles at the 2005 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Badminton Championships held at Santa Ana College, Friday. Ho and Argent, who downed Grossmont's Yoko Suzuki and Betty Hsu (15-13, 15-12), will be one of six doubles teams representing the OEC at the 2005 California Community Colleges Commission On Athletics Badminton Championships that will be held at Fresno City College, May 12-14.

Ho and Argent beat Fullerton College's Justine Ruiz and Kata Kun (15-3,
15-0) and San Diego Mesa College's Michelle Morales and Linh Ngo (15-1, 15-3) before suffering their only loss in the tournament to Irvine Valley College's Lily Zhou and Etsuko Cabell (15-1, 15-5) who finished second in the doubles portion of the tournament.

Ho will also be taking part in the state singles championships following her sixth-place finish in the OEC Championships. She downed San Diego Mesa College's Crystal Lu (11-2, 11-1) in the first round and Irvine Valley College's Etsuko Cabell (8-11, 11-4, 11-6) ins the secod round before falling to Grace Peng from Irvine Valley, 11-2, 11-1, in the semifinals. Ho advanced to the fifth-place match with a 4-11, 11-5, 11-0 before suffering a three-set loss to Irvine Valley's Stephanie Tran (4-11, 11-9, 11-7).
