Dons Errors Prove Costly in 4-2 Loss to Riverside

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team lost to visiting Riverside College 4-2 in an Orange Empire Conference game. The Dons defense committed five errors in the loss.

Riverside (25-9, 11-4) struggled early against starting pitcher Alicia Remigio who retired six of the first eight batters she faced. The two batters that reached, both reached on defensive errors.

Charline Torres sparked the Tigers third inning scoring when she led the inning off by reaching on the Dons third error. She scored in the next at bat when Jackie Serna singled through the right side but another error allowed Torres to score from first and Serna reach third.

Serna put the Tigers up 2-0 when she scored on a double by Alex Redman. Remigio answered by retiring the next three batters in order.

The Dons (11-19-1, 3-12) answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-2. Nicole Mendoza started the rally as she reached on a fielder's choice. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and Remigio drew a two-out walk.

Daiseree Williams followed with a single that advanced the runners but a throwing error allowed Mendoza to score. Shannon Halverson followed with a RBI-single scoring Remigio for the second run.

Both pitchers answered the third inning scoring by retiring a string of batters apiece. Remigio retired nine straight batters following the three runs and Riverside's Felicia Mendoza retired seven straight batters.

The Dons threatened to tie the game in the sixth but were unable to score as Riverside tacked on an extra run in the seventh for the 4-2 victory. Remigio suffered the loss as she allowed four runs, two earned, while scattering six hits in over six innings of work. She had two strikeouts without walking a batter.
