Dons Follow Field Dedication with 6-0 Win over GWC

SANTA ANA, CA -The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team defeated visiting Golden West College 6-0 for its second-straight shutout victory. The win improves the Dons to 8-15-1 overall and 3-9 in conference while Golden West falls to 14-15 overall and 5-9 in conference.

The Dons wasted little time at the plate as Shannon Halverson led the bottom of the first inning off with a single followed by a bunt single by Nicole Mendoza.

Bre Dravis laid down a sacrifice bunt attempt and Halverson beat the throw to third to load up the bases. Alicia Remigio singled through the middle of the infield in the next at bat to score Halverson and Mendoza to give the Dons an early 2-0 lead.

SAC extended its lead to 4-0 in the third inning with two unearned runs as the Rustlers defense committed two errors. Remigio sparked the Dons rally with a two-out single.

Daiseree Williams followed with a walk and Amanda Patrick reached on an error that scored Remigio. Williams later scored the second run on a wild pitch to put the Dons up 4-0.

The Dons final two runs came in the fourth inning when Halverson hit a one-out single followed by an infield single by Mendoza. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a two-RBI double by Dravis.

Katlyn Harp extended her shutout streak to 11 innings. Lindsey Morgan hit a two-out single for GWC in the second inning that snapped Harp's streak of 20-straight batters retired.

Before the game started, Santa Ana College held a brief dedication ceremony for the Santa Ana College Softball Complex that was completed in the fall of 2007. Prior to the current stadium, the Dons shared a field with the soccer program from 1978 to 2007.

The ceremonial first pitch was thrown out by Erlinda Martinez, President, Santa Ana College, Eddie Hernandez, Chancellor, Rancho Santiago Community College District, David Chapel, President, Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees and Ehab Maamoun from EMAE International Corporation.
