Dons Lose Tough Game 4-3 to Fullerton in 8 Innings

SANTA ANA, CA -The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team lost to visiting Fullerton College 4-3 in eight innings in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Fullerton (13-4, 7-1) scored the games first run when Diana Payan led the game off by reaching on an error. After Jackie Taylor bunted her to second, Jordyn Bohon doubled to left field to score Payan.

The Dons (6-10-1, 1-6) answered in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. Shannon Halverson led the inning off with a single to right field that was misplayed allowing Halverson to advance to third. She scored in the next at bat when Nicole Mendoza hit a RBI-single to left field.

The Hornets retook the lead at 2-1 in the top of the second when Elyse Parr singled through the middles of the infield and later scored on a RBI-single by Payan.

The Dons answered in the third inning when Halverson hit a one-out single. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mendoza and reached third on Bre Dravis' single to center field.

Alicia Remigio hit a ball up the right side that was dropped by Natalie DeLeese allowing Halverson to score to tie the game at 2-2. Daiseree Williams followed with a RBI-single to score Dravis, giving SAC a 3-2 lead.

Jackie Munoz brought Fullerton right back into the game when she hit a lead-off home run in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3. The run proved to be important as Katlyn Harp retired the next 11 batters in a row before allowing a two-out walk in the seventh.

The Dons offense was also slowed by pitching as Sierra Gallego retired 10 consecutive batters before Amanda Patrick hit a single to left field in the bottom of the seventh. However, Haylee Whitney hit into a double play, ending the Dons threat.

Taylor hit a one-out double in the top of the eighth sparking a late Fullerton rally. She advanced to third on an infield single and later scored the game-winning run on a RBI-single by Munoz.

Katyln Harp (4-3) suffered the loss as she pitched the complete game allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits. She finished the game with eight strikeouts and only two walks.
