Dons Split Double-Header with Moorpark and Chaffey

SANTA ANA, CA -The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team defeated Moorpark College 7-4 after losing to Chaffey College 4-1 in a double-header. Moorpark defeated Chaffey 6-1 in the middle game.

The Dons scored first against Chaffey when Nicole Mendoza scored on a RBI-triple by Alicia Remigio in the first inning. Mendoza reached earlier on a double. However, the Dons would only be able to manage four more hits for the rest of the game.

Chaffey tied the game in the second inning, added two runs in the sixth and scored its final run of the game in the seventh. Remigio suffered the loss for the Dons at pitcher.

SAC returned to action in the afternoon to face Moorpark College. The Dons opened the scoring in the second with two runs capped off with a RBI-single by Katlyn Harp.

After Moorpark cut the lead to 2-1 in the third, the Dons answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Mendoza scored on an error and Remigio scored on a single by Daiseree Williams. Williams later scored on a passed ball and Shannon Halverson singled allowing Haylee Whitney to score putting the Dons up 6-1.

Moorpark scored twice more in the top of the fourth. The Dons got one run back when Mendoza scored again on an error in the bottom of the fourth for the Dons final run.

Moorpark scored once in the seventh but Harp cut the rally short, getting the final three outs on pop-outs. Harp improved to 4-2 on the season with the win as she allowed four runs, two earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts.
