SAC Splits Doubleheader With Long Beach/El Camino
SANTA ANA , CA - Santa Ana College (SAC) lost to visiting Long Beach City College (LBCC) 3-2 in the morning game before defeating visiting El Camino College (ECC) 4-3 in 10 innings.
SAC fell behind early to LBCC 1-0 in the first inning on a single to right field. The Dons came back to tie the game in the third inning when Natalie DeLeese (El Toro HS) hit a solo home run. Her home run was the first ever home run in the new SAC Softball Complex by a Santa Ana player.
Jenny Kulp (El Modena HS) followed with a triple to centerfield and scored during the next at-bat when Elyse Parr (Villa Park HS) hit a double to centerfield, putting SAC up 2-1.
Unfortunately, the Dons were unable to hold on to the lead and gave up two runs in the sixth inning. LBCC held the lead in the final two innings and won the game 3-2.
SAC fell behind early again in the second game, this time the Dons trailed 3-0 following the first inning. SAC surrendered the three runs on three hits, one home run and two errors. However, Loren Harrell (Tustin HS) and Alicia Remigio (Valencia HS) combined to shut out ECC for the final nine innings of the game.
The Dons got on the board in the third inning when Parr hit a RBI double that scored Breanna Dravis (Villa Park HS). In the sixth inning, Rachel Blake (Villa Park HS) hit a single through the middle of the infield that found its way to the fence and allowed Stacin Halverson (Western HS) and Harrell to score and tie the game at 3-3.
ECC threatened to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning with two on and two outs when Dravis made a diving catch in left field to rob the Warriors of a run.
Finally in the 10th inning, DeLeese hit a long drive to left field that fell just past the left fielder and scored J.R. Pyard (El Dorado HS) for the game-winning run.
