Santa Ana Falls To Palomar 2-1
In Extra Innings; Finishes Season 28-10-1
COVINA, CA - Dominique Van Nortwick's ninth-inning, two-out single drove in Rachel Arakawa with the winning run as 11th-seeded Palomar College (26-11-1) advanced to the regional finals of the California Community Colleges Softball Championships with a 2-1 win over sixth-seeded Santa Ana College (28-10-1), Saturday.

Leading 1-0 with two out in the top of the seventh, Santa Ana needed just one out but Van Nortwick rescued the Comets with a two-out single to center that scored Ashley Lovelady to knot the game, 1-1, and set up her game-winner in the ninth.
Santa Ana, who jumped out to a 1-0 lead with three hits and a sacrifice bunt, led all the way until Nortwick's first of two, two-out singles.
Heather Krumpols (El Modena HS) led off the game with a double and moved to third of Korina Fryslie's (Trabuco Hills HS) sacrifice bunt before scoring on Vanessa Luis' (Edison HS) run-scoring single to left. Arlene Newton (Santa Ana HS) also had a single in the first for the Lady Dons.
After giving up one run on three hits in the first, Palomar's Amanda Martinez limited Santa Ana to just three hits over the next final eight innings. Martinez gave up just one run on six hits while striking out four and walking two to improve to 21-4.
The Lady Dons battled back in the bottom of the ninth as Luis opened the inning with a walk. Newton, who finished 2-for-4, collected her second hit of the game to put runners at first and second with no outs. Unfortunately for the Lady Dons, Kim Moore's liner that was headed to right field was snared by Comets' second baseman Arakawa who then doubled up Newton at first. For the second time in the inning, Santa Ana put runners at first and second when Chelsea Caraway was hit by a pitch. Martinez got Nancy Mejia (Mater Dei HS) to pop out to third to send Palomar to the regional finals against host Mt. San Antonio College who was a 4-0 winner over Long Beach City College in Saturday's first game.
Ramona Garcia (Marina HS) had her 13-game winning streak snapped despite allowing just two runs (one earned) on eight hits, two walks and a hit batter. The freshman righthander struck out two and finished the season
15-3.
Santa Ana finishes its season 28-10-1 overall and runner-up in the Orange Empire Conference with a 14-4 mark.
