Dons Remain Unbeaten after 5-0 Win over Palomar

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team recorded its second shutout in as many days after the Dons defeated visiting Palomar College 5-0 in a non-conference game. The win improves the Dons to 4-0-1 on the season while Palomar suffered its first loss, falling to 3-1.

Sarah Steinbeck started things off for the Dons when she popped a bunt over the pitchers head allowing her to reach first base safely. After stealing second, Steinbeck scored on an error as Nicole Mendoza struck out but reached first on a passed ball putting the Dons up 1-0.

After Crystal Sanchez' ground out advanced Mendoza to third, Liz Martinez reached on an error allowing Mendoza to score from second base to extend the Dons lead to 2-0 after the first inning.

The Dons final three runs came in the third inning started off by a Miriah Malapira single. Malapira then stole second followed by Steinbeck reaching on an error.

Mendoza walked to load the bases and Sanchez hit a two-run single to centerfield scoring Malapira and Steinbeck. Mendoza scored during the next at bat when she tagged and ran home on a foul out by Liz Martinez for the final run of the game.

Katlyn Harp improved to 4-0 on the season as she pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts while only allowing three hits. Palomar threatened to score only once when Danielle LeBeau hit a one-out triple. However, Harp was able to induce a ground ball in the next at bat and Ashley Ross threw LeBeau out at home on a fielder's choice.
