Santa Ana Loses Heartbreaker in 13 innings
SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College (SAC) lost 2-1 in 13 innings to visiting Riverside College (RCC) in the Dons final home game of the season. SAC has now lost all three games against the Tigers this season.
RCC scored its first run in the top of the first inning when leadoff batter Andria Briones reached on a single and later scored when Danielle Payne singled to left field.
The Dons tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on a Jenny Kulp (El Modena HS) single to right field scoring Diana Quezada (Santa Ana HS). The Dons later loaded the bases in the inning on an Ashly Perdue (La Mirada HS) but Vanessa Hardway (Edison HS) was tagged out at second base on the play.
RCC threatened to score in the top of the seventh inning but Vivian Torres (Perris HS) threw out Briones at third base from right field to end the Tigers threat.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the 11th inning but Perdue was able to pitch out of the inning. Perdue then pitched a perfect inning in the 12th before RCC led off the 13th inning with a single to right field. After advancing the runner with a sacrifice bunt, the Tigers scored the game-winning run on a double to left-center field.
Perdue suffered the loss despite forcing the Tigers to leave 13 runners on base. She threw 174 pitches in 13 complete innings allowing two runs on 12 hits while striking out five batters.
