Santa Ana's Offense Comes Alive in 8-1 Victory
SANTA ANA, CA – In the second meeting all-time, and the first at Santa Ana College (SAC), the Dons defeated Santiago Canyon College 8-1 to take a 2-0 series lead over the Hawks in an Orange Empire Conference softball game.
The Dons opened the game with a three-run first inning including a two-run double by Tiffany Campos (Corona del Mar HS) to take an early 3-0 lead. SAC added two more runs in the third inning when Vivian Torres (Perris HS) scored on a Jenny Kulp (El Modena HS) sacrifice fly. Heather Hamilton (Edison HS) was able to score on the play due to an error by the catcher.
The Dons final three runs came in the fifth inning with Hamilton scoring on an Ashly Perdue (La Mirada HS) single. Perdue and Campos later scored when Loren Harrell struck out but the ball got past the catcher allowing the runners to score.
Perdue pitched a complete game for the Dons allowing one run on three hits while striking out five batters. The victory improves Perdue to 10-7 on the season.
