Catalano, Saddleback Nip Santa Ana, 7-6
SANTA ANA, CA -
Torri Catalano's one-out, RBI-single broke a 6-6 tie and gave visiting Saddleback College (17-7, 9-1) a 7-6 win over Santa Ana College in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) softball action, Monday.
Catalano, who was 3 for 3 with three runs scored, drove in April Marine from second with the game-winner and kept the Gauchos in first place in the OEC. The Gauchos took advantage of two Santa Ana miscues in the final stanza, both by Hernandez.
The Gauchos overcame deficits of 3-1 and 6-4 to remain in first place of the OEC. Dom Luoni (4-2) picked up the win in relief of Gauchos' starter Sara Thurston. Luoni helped her own cause at the plate finishing 2 for 5 with a home run.
Ale Alvarado led the Dons' offensive attack with two hits in three at bats. The sophomore doubled in the second and tied the game at 4-4 with a solo home run off Luoni to start the fifth innning. Brittany Heinle also finished with two hits for Santa Ana who fell to 14-11 overall and 5-5 in the league with the loss.
Ramona Garcia (6-8) suffered the loss in relief of Melissa Wilt who started the game for the Dons. Garcia allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits over four innings and was the victim of four Santa Ana errors.
