Santa Ana Places Four On All-Conference Teams
MISSION VIEJO, CA -
On Thursday, four Santa Ana College fastpitch softball players were named to the all-Orange Empire Conference (OEC) teams. Heading the list of honorees were a pair of freshmen in first baseman Alissa Zoelle (Corona del Mar HS) and catcher Charlene Sanchez (Villa Park HS) who garnered first team honors. Shortstop Nina Hernandez and pitcher/outfielder Ramona Garcia were honored on the league's second team.
Alissa Zoelle
Zoelle led the OEC with a .465 batting average collecting 20 hits in 43 at bats. In league play she finished with eight RBI, six doubles and 10 runs scored. Zoelle hit safely in 13 of the 15 conference games she played in. She had six multi-hit games and had a season-high three hits against Riverside Community College on February 24. Overall Zoelle batted .408, which ranks fourth on the all-time Santa Ana College batting average list. She played in 34 of 35 games and was 40 of 98 at the plate with 17 RBI, 16 runs scored, 9 doubles and 2 triples.
Charlene Sanchez
Sanchez, who played in all 17 conference games, batted .367 with eight RBI, five doubles and six runs scored. She committed just two errors in 75 chances from her catchers position. Overall, the former Villa Park High School-product started 36 of the 37 games she played in. She finished sixth on the team with a .313 batting average, fourth with 19 runs scored and 16 RBI and second with a fielding percentage of .982.
Nina Hernandez
Hernandez, who batted .388 with eight RBI in league play, was named second team all-OEC following her freshman season. She collected two doubles and belted one home run while scoring eight times. Overall, Hernandez batted .395 which ties her for sixth on the all-time Santa Ana College batting average list. She led the Dons in three offensive categories including at bats (114), hits (45) and RBI (29) and was third with 23 runs scored. Her 29 RBI ties her for eighth on the team's all-time RBI list.

Ramona Garcia
Garcia was the only Santa Ana player to repeat as a member of the all-OEC teams when she was named to the second team. The sophomore pitched in 15 of 17 league games finishing with a 5-7 record and an ERA of 1.22. She pitched 74.2 innings giving up 59 hits while striking out 35 and walking 15. At the plate Garcia batted .292 (7 of 24) with a pair of RBI in conference play. Overall the former Marina High School-ace was 9-13 on the mound with a 1.75 ERA. She struck out 57 and walked 29. Offensively, she batted .306 (11 of 36) with two RBI and six runs scored. Last year, Garcia was a first team all-OEC selection.
Santa Ana finished the 2005 season with a 20-19 overall record and tied Riverside Community College for fourth place in the league standings with an 8-10 mark.
