Santa Ana Blanks Rio Hondo, 8-0
SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College scored three times in the third and five times in the fifth inning to even its record at 5-5 with a five-inning, 8-0 win over visiting Rio Hondo College, Tuesday.
Shortstop Nina Hernandez, who was 1 for 3 with four RBI, accounted for half of the Dons' runs while Daniela Ramirez finished 2 for 3 at the plate with one RBI. Hernandez broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with a three-run triple down the right field line to give Santa Ana the lead at 3-0.
Hernandez's hit scored Ramirez who singled to lead off the inning, Melissa Wilt who walked and Courtney Zobac who reached on a bunt. She drove in a fou
rth run in the Dons' five-run fifth on a sacrifice bunt.
Wilt improved to 2-1 overall by tossing a four-hit shutout. The sophomore righthander struck out seven, including six of the first eight batters she faced, and walked just one. She also hit a batter. Wilt helped herself at the plate finishing 1 for 1 with two runs scored.
Santa Ana used six hits, two errors and a pass ball to tally its five runs in the fifth. Charlene Sanchez provided the big hit with a two-run double to make it 6-0.
