Santa Ana Falls to Saddleback, 4-3

MISSION VIEJO, CA - Torri Catalano broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning when she doubled to left-center, was sacrificed to third by Cassidy Rollins, and scored on a wild pitch by Santa Ana College's Ramona Garcia to lead Saddleback College to a 4-3 win over the Dons on Monday.

The loss snaps Santa Ana's two-game Orange Empire Conference winning streak and drops the Dons to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. Saddleback, meanwhile, improves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the OEC.

The Gauchos received an insurance run in the fifth inning as Rollins beat out a bunt, advanced to second on a ground out by Dom Luoni, then scored on a single by Lynda Gallardo. That run proved to be the game winner as Santa Ana rallied for one run in the top of the sixth inning when Alissa Zoelle led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a ground out, took third on a fielding error by Saddleback's left fielder, then scored on Daniela Ramirez' sacrifice fly to right field.

Zoelle had two of the Dons' seven hits including a double. Jasmine Joyce also had a double for Santa Ana.

Next: vs Rio Hondo College, Tueday, March 1, 3 p.m.
