Former Don Named Pepsi Scholar Athlete


SANTA ANA, CA - On Monday, Heather Krumpols, a member of the 2004 Santa Ana College fastpitch softball team, was selected to the 2004 Pepsi Scholar Athlete Honor Roll for her athletic and academic achievement while playing for the Dons.

Krumpols is one of just 18 student-athletes from across the state that will be recognized for their academic and athletic achievement on April 7, 2005 at the Celebration of Student Athletes Luncheon that will be held during the 8 th Annual Commission On Athletics Convention in Reno, Nevada . The former El Modena High School-product was a two-time all-Orange Empire Conference (OEC) outfielder while playing for Santa Ana.

Last year (2004), Krumpols led Santa Ana College to a 28-10-1 overall record and a second place finish in the OEC with a 14-4 mark. The Dons advanced to the second round of the Southern California Regional Fastpitch Softball Tournament before being eliminated by Palomar College , 2-1, in nine innings. Krumpols led Santa Ana College in five individual categories including at bats (122), runs scored (27), hits (45), stolen bases (15-of-17) and fielding percentage (.979, only one error) and was second on the team with a .369 batting average. She finished her career with a .342 batting average, 15 RBI, 8 doubles while stealing 21-of-25 bases (.840).

Academically, Krumpols, who graduated from Santa Ana in May 2004 as President's Scholar with a degree in liberal studies and a 3.85 GPA, is currently attending Abilene Christian University ( Abilene , Texas ) on scholarship and is a member of the Wildcat fastpitch softball team.

She is the fifth Santa Ana College student-athlete to be recognized on the Pepsi Scholar Athlete Honor Roll since award was originated in 1984. Other Dons who have been named to the Pepsi Scholar Athlete Honor Roll are Stacey Benson (softball, 1984), Cory Williams (baseball, 1998), Christian Popoff (baseball, 1999) and Ana Duarte (swimming, 2000).

In order to be considered, recipients must have excelled academically with a GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, demonstrated outstanding citizenship and competed in at least two seasons of sport.
